How to Calculate Roofing Materials

Start with the footprint area of your roof (length x width). Multiply by the pitch factor to get the actual roof surface area. Divide by 100 to get the number of "squares" (1 square = 100 sqft). Each square requires 3 bundles of standard 3-tab shingles.

Common pitch factors: 4:12 = 1.054, 6:12 = 1.118, 8:12 = 1.202, 10:12 = 1.302, 12:12 = 1.414.
